You know what I don’t love? Super thick, heavy-duty Bloody Marys. It’s like sucking up soup through a straw, which to me, sounds more like a punishment than a refreshment. No thanks. These Bloody Marys are lighter and brighter than many others out there and I think you’ll find it a very welcomed change.
Now I know what you might be thinking as you gander over the ingredients, and I get it: Tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, pickle juice and citrus really don’t seem like they’re going to play well together. But I promise you are in for a very pleasant surprise. Somehow, it works…and if you don’t mind my saying so, it actually works pretty darn well. Bloody Marys just don’t get much better than this. Please, enjoy.
- 3 cups tomato juice or thin mild Bloody Mary mix, preferably Mr. & Mrs. T's
- 1 cup high quality vodka
- 1/4 cup pickle juice
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Juice of 1 lime plus wedges for salted glasses, if desired
- 1 heaping tablespoon prepared horseradish
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon course-ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
- Kosher salt for glass rims if desired
- Lime wedges
- Lemon wedges
- Celery sticks
- Pickle spears
- Pickled Okra
- Pickled Green Beans
If you'd prefer a salted rim, have ready a plate covered with a thin layer of Kosher salt. Cut a slit down the center of a lime wedge, fit it over the rim of the glass and cover its perimeter with the juice. Turn the glass upside down and gently tap the rim of the glass into the salt until it sticks.
In a large pitcher, combine all of the Bloody Mary ingredients and stir. Fill your glassware with ice and fill with Bloody Mary mixture. Garnish as desired, serve and enjoy.
Makes 4 Beverages.
