A double-decker club sandwich recipe featuring turkey, ham and bacon.
Im going to go ahead and state for the record, that I believe sandwiches are terribly underrated for dinnertime fare. They typically take very little time to make, they're filling and for some reason, they make ya feel all comfortable and cozy on the inside. Is that just me? Or, maybe it's just the bread? The bacon? Whatever it is, you really don't need much of an excuse to put this double-decker on the table. The American club sandwich is a classic for a reason. Turkey, bacon and ham all come together to form one heck of protein triage. My favorite cheese to pair with a good ol' fashioned club is Colby Jack, but hey, feel free to throw in your favorite from Swiss to Cheddar to American, they would do the job just fine. Now for the condiments: My go to is my super easy, super simple homemade honey mustard. I adore its sweet and tangy qualities against the salty richness from both the ham and bacon. Throw in a few veggies like lettuce, tomatoes and pickles for some freshness, and that's just about more than enough for an entire meal right there! But wait, I did say double-decker, right? Yeah, so basically what that means is we've two sandwiches connected by one middle piece of bread. Holy goodness gracious. Dinner is served.
The Ultimate Club Sandwich | Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 slices thick-cut bacon halved
- 12 slices white sandwich bread toasted
- ⅓ cup Homemade Honey Mustard or other desired condiment
- 8 ounces sliced deli ham or leftover baked ham cut/torn into large chunks
- 4 slices Colby Jack cheese
- 4-6 Campari/Roma tomatoes cut into ¼" slices
- 1 cup Romaine lettuce chopped
- 8 ounces thinly sliced deli turkey
Instructions
- Have ready a large plate lined with paper towels.
- In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, add the bacon and saute for 8-10 minutes or until crispy, turning half way though. Transfer to the plate and set aside until ready to use.
- Divide the above ingredients amongst four sandwiches, begin the assembly. Assemble in this order, if desired: Spread honey mustard across a slice of bread, and top with ham, followed by cheese, bacon and another slice of bread. Spread honey mustard across the second layer of bread and top with tomatoes, lettuce and turkey. Add one last dollop of honey mustard over the turkey and top with last layer of bread.
- Cut the sandwich diagonally in half, and then into quarters, if desired. Insert toothpicks in each quarter to keep in tact, if desired, serve and enjoy.
- Serves 4.
