Ingredients
1pound80/20 ground turkey
2tablespoonolive oil, separated
½cupfinely diced yellow onion
½cupfinely diced green bell pepper
2clovesgarlicminced
¾cupketchup
1tablespoontomato paste
1 ½tablespoonsWorcestershire sauce
1tablespoonbrown sugar
1 ¼teaspoonmustard powder(substitute for 1 tsp yellow mustard, if needed)
Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of olive and allow to come to temperature. Add the ground turkey, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook for about 8 minutes.
Transfer the turkey to a heat-proof bowl and set aside. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pan and add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, sauteing until softened. Add the chopped garlic and cook 1 minute more.
Add the turkey back to the pan along with the remaining ingredient. Stir to combine and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, reducing the heat as necessary to maintain a simmer.
Once the sauce has thickened and clings to meat, remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. Serve with buns and any desired toppings and enjoy.
