For black monster treats, use Cocoa Krispies and black food coloring. For orange monster treats, use Rice Krispies and orange food coloring.
Make the rice krispie base by adding the butter and marshmallows to a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring after each stint in the microwave until the marshmallows are completely melted.
Add the vanilla and salt and stir to combine. Add drops of orange OR black food coloring (not both) and mix until the color is very bright and saturated.
Add the cereal and stir until evenly coated in melted marshmallows. Allow to cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
Set a sheet of wax or parchment paper on your work surface. Scoop a scant half cup of krispie treats and, with greased hands, firmly press to form into a ball. Place a candy eye decal in the center and set on the wax paper to cool completely.
TO MAKE SLIME-COVERED TREATS:
Have ready a greased 9x13" casserole dish. Make the rice krispie base by adding the butter and marshmallows to a large microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring after each stint in the microwave until the marshmallows are completely melted. Add the vanilla and salt and stir to combine. Add the rice krispie cereal and stir until evenly coated.
Transfer to the prepared casserole dish, and with greased hands, gently press down to smooth over the top. Allow to set, about 30-45 minutes. Cut into 12-16 squares and transfer to a work surface lined with wax or parchment paper.
Add the powdered sugar and milk to a medium mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Add drops of green food coloring until the color is very bright and saturated. Add a single drop of yellow, stirring after each addition until it looks like slime.
Dip half of the rice krispie treats in the slime, allowing any excess glaze to fall back into the bowl. Decorate with candy eye decals and set back on the wax paper to set completely, about 1 hour.
TO MAKE THE HALLOWEEN SPRINKLE RICE KRISPIE TREATS:
Have ready a greased 9x13" casserole dish. Make the rice krispie base by adding the butter and marshmallows to a large microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring after each stint in the microwave until the marshmallows are completely melted. Add the vanilla and salt and stir to combine. Add the rice krispie cereal and stir until evenly coated.
Add about ⅔'s of the mini marshmallows, ⅔'s of the sprinkles, and ⅔'s of the candy corn and mix to combine. Transfer to the prepared casserole dish, and with greased hands, gently press down to smooth over the top.
Sprinkle the remaining marshmallows, candy corn, sprinkles, and sprinkles across the top, and place the candy eyes where you'd like them. Gently press items into place with the palm of your hands.
Allow to set, about 30-45 minutes. Cut into 12-16 squares and enjoy!
