Ingredients
2tablespoonsolive oil
2poundslean ground beef
1 yellow onion, finely diced
3cloves of garlic, finely chopped
3teaspoonsKosher salt
½teaspoonblack pepper
2(28-ounce) canscrushed San Marzano tomatoes
1(16-ounce) cantomato sauce
3tablespoonsgranulated sugar
¼teaspoonred pepper flakes
⅓cupchopped fresh basil
Instructions
Add the olive oil to a large pan or Dutch oven over medium heat and allow to come to temperature.
Add the ground beef to the pan and break it apart with a wooden spatula. Add the onion, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon Kosher salt and a ½ teaspoon black pepper. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring often.
Add the canned tomatoes, sugar, 2 teaspoons Kosher salt, and ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes. Allow the sauce to reach a simmer and reduce heat as necessary to maintain a gentle simmer. Simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring often.
Add basil, stir, and simmer for about 10 minutes more.
