Based on my best-selling Chocolate Chip Cookies, this recipe is set apart by the mix of M&Ms and semi-sweet chocolate chips, which gives it the perfect amount of sweetness in every bite. Plus, we are going to show you how to make your cookies look like they came straight from a professional bakery! Need more delicious, presentable cookies? Check out our Cookie Recipes, and add some to your "must-make" list!

HOW TO MAKE M&M COOKIES

The first thing you want to do is preheat your oven to 350°F. Next, you'll want to have ready a cooling rack and one or two baking sheets lined with either sheets of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Now it's time to whip up that M&M cookie dough! To kick off the dough, start with your dry ingredients. Combine all-purpose flour, baking soda, and fine sea salt in a medium size mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Be sure you do not mix up your baking soda for baking powder, they are not interchangeable ingredients.

Set your dry ingredients aside and begin on your wet ingredients. For the wet ingredients, you will need granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted, unsalted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.

It also helps if you melt your butter about 10-15 minutes in advance and allow it to cool before adding it to the cookie batter. If your butter goes into the batter hot, your cookies will likely spread too much and darken faster than you'd like. Also, take care not to use salted butter; it would make your M&M cookies far too salty!

Once your butter is melted and has had time to cool off a bit, add the butter and sugars to a large bowl along with both granulated sugar and light brown sugar. Use a handheld mixer on medium-high speed to mix these ingredients together for no less than two minutes. Setting a timer will help you not to give up on your task too early! You could also use a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment for this task if you'd like.

The butter will not necessarily appear light and fluffy, but the mixture should have visibly thickened up when you're finished mixing.

Add two large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Next, add the vanilla and mix until combined once more.

Time to bring this M&M cookie dough together! Add in your dry ingredients and mix on low until the batter is well combined.

Then, you'll add in your semi-sweet chocolate chips and M&M candies and mix gently so as not to break the shells off of your M&M's.

Drop generous tablespoon-sized mounds of cookie dough onto your prepared baking sheet, taking care to space each cookie dough ball at least 2 inches apart. You don't want the edges of your cookies baking together!

Bake for about 10 minutes or just until the bottom edges of the cookies are tinging with golden brown. As soon as the cookies are finished baking, remove them from the oven, transfer them to a wire rack, and have ready you're reserved M&M's!

Add about 3 to 4 extra M&M's on top of each cookie, gently pressing them into the top. Allow your cookies to cool for 10 to 15 minutes more, serve, and enjoy!

HOW TO STORE M&M COOKIES

Your M&M Cookies should stay fresh and delicious for up to 4 days stored at room temperature.

Here are a few tips for keeping them soft the entire time:

  • Resist The Urge To Overcook! - Remember that your cookies will continue to cook for a bit once they are out of the oven. You want to be sure and pull your cookies from the heat as soon as the bake time is up, even if they are still slightly underdone.
  • Seal Them Up - Leaving them out in the air for an extended period of time is a surefire way to end up with stale cookies. As soon as they are completely cool, put your cookies in an airtight container or zip-top bag.
  • Know How To Reheat - If you do end up with slightly stale cookies, we've got your back. Place them in the microwave and lay a damp paper towel over the top of them, heat for about 20 seconds and they'll be good to go!

Freezing M&M Cookies

If you want to save your M&M Cookies for longer than a few days, feel free to freeze them. They should maintain their flavor in the freezer for 3 months. Simply seal the cooled cookies in an airtight container or freezer-safe, zip-top bag before placing them in the freezer.

To freeze M&M Cookie dough, roll it into balls, and transfer them to a freezer-safe, zip-top bag or airtight container, separating the layers with a sheet of wax paper.

Keep them in the freezer for up to 3 months. If baking them while still frozen, add 2-3 minutes to the bake time.
