New at the whole stay-at-home mom thing, I found myself wishing for a way to contribute to our families' finances at Christmas-time. My prayer was answered in November of 2010 while reading Proverbs 31, “The Virtuous Wife.”
Throughout this passage, the virtuous wife willingly works with her hands, provides food for her household, does her husband good all of her days, perceives that her merchandise is good and ‘the kicker’… makes things and sells them. I was inspired.
You see, at the time we were a young, one income family. My husband's business was still new and budding. I wanted our first Christmas as parents to be a joyful one; not one in which my husband felt pressured to provide more-so than he already was.
So feeling inspired that November, I told my family and friends baked goods would be for sale. It all started from there. Baking and cooking, like any talent, is God-given. I am grateful to have realized this gift and will continue to make something of it. Both figuratively and literally.
Over a matter of years, the sale of baked goods became more than one person could handle, and after selling almost 5,000 cookies and bars the Christmas of 2015, we decided (for the sake of our families' sanity) I needed to pull back on the reigns.
I am so grateful for the way The Lord has led me on this wonderful journey. His Word inspired me to master my craft as a baker in and hone in on other cooking skills all the while. If it weren't for an outpouring of blessings in the form of ever-increasing orders over the course of my baking years, I likely never would have pursued a new outlet for The Anthony Kitchen. An outlet that ultimately led to the creation of this website.
This is food that comes straight from my heart. I encourage you to put these recipes to use at the family table, surround yourself with loved ones, and enjoy some good, old-fashioned quality time. Creating quality recipes for the family table is most certainly my calling, and sharing them with you is my blessing. I hope you will continue to join me, and that these recipes will mean as much to you and your family, as they do to ours.
