Is the Summer weather too hot to handle? This Frozen Margarita is guaranteed to cool you off! It's sweet, tangy, refreshing, and most of all cold. It's got all the flavors you love in a classic margarita, only served frozen and blended to the perfect consistency, thanks to a few simple tricks.

Conquering this classic cocktail at home is easier than you'd think, and you don't need a crazy expensive blender to whip one up. Today we'll talk about how to blend better -- as in no more slushy consistency, so you can serve smooth and frosty margs at your next backyard hangout or poolside party.

BLENDING TIPS FOR THE BEST FROZEN MARGARITAS

A powerful blender is a wonderful kitchen tool. Please note, I didn't say expensive -- I said powerful. Any blender with a motor output capable of whirring up 1800 Watts/120 volts or higher will do the trick just fine.

After the blender, comes the order of your frozen margarita ingredients. Make sure your liquid goes in first, and then add the ice. The liquid at the bottom of the blender helps to keep things moving.

Once you've got everybody in the pool, make sure you start your blender on low speed and work your way up to high speed. This will help to create a vortex and keep your blender from getting stopped up.

Additionally, blending at a higher speed causes the motor to work harder at the beginning of the blending process and can actually overheat the blender. As you can imagine, a super hot blender is not a conducive environment for whipping up a refreshing, icy cocktail.

FROZEN MARGARITA INGREDIENTS

Tequila |  You might have noticed the ingredient list for these homemade frozen margaritas is fairly minimal. That means you're going to be able to taste the ingredients. If at all possible, invest in a good quality tequila. You'll find silver or reposado tequila is best for margaritas.

Lime Juice | Homemade margaritas are better with fresh lime juice. Especially if lime is the flavor profile you're aiming for. Fresh lime makes a huge difference when it comes to the refreshing quality of a margarita, and is a task well worth your effort and time!

Triple Sec | You can use either triple sec or orange liqueur for your frozen margaritas. Cointreau is a high-quality triple sec and will add a bit more sweetener to your margaritas than an orange liqueur, like Grand Marnier.

Simple Syrup | Simple syrup is much better for frozen cocktails than granulated sugar. You can either buy it at the grocery or liquor store or make a batch of simple syrup yourself!

You'll find simple syrup is extremely quick and easy to do at home. Just make sure you allow it to cool completely before adding it to the blender. Warm simple syrup will most definitely water down your drink!

If you prefer agave nectar in your margaritas, feel free to sub it in for simple syrup in this frozen margarita recipe!

Ice | Bottom line -- you probably need more ice cubes than you think. For a thick, frosty margarita you could practically eat with a spoon, you'll need about 6 cups of ice. The trick is to not add it all at once.

Start with 4 cups of ice, check your consistency, and if you want your margarita thicker add another cup and blend again. If you still want it thicker, you can add up to one more cup of ice without diluting the flavor.

Another thing to keep in mind when it comes to ice is the size of the cube. Large ice cubes are going to require much more work on behalf of your blender. The smaller the cubes the better. I find that when I'm planning to make frozen margaritas at home a bag of small ice cubes or even crushed ice works better than the cubes dispensed from our freezer.

HOW TO MAKE A FROZEN MARGARITA

Add the tequila, lime juice, triple sec, simple syrup, and some of the ice to the blender.

Cover the blender and begin blending on low. Once the ice starts to appear crushed, you can gradually increase the speed to high.

From there, you'll blend until your margaritas are frosty and smooth to your liking! If you like your frozen margaritas on the thicker side, add another cup of ice and blend until you reach the perfect consistency.

HOW TO ADD A SUGAR OR SALT RIM

Adding a sugar or salt rim to your glass is easy! You'll start by running a lime wedge along the rim of your margarita glass. Then have ready ⅓ cup of either granulated sugar or kosher salt on a plate, turn your glass upside down and swirl it around.

Once your rim is right where you want it, pour in your frozen margarita and sip away! Be sure to check out all of the Cocktail Recipes we have to offer! These are perfect for Entertaining!
