This Refried Bean Dip is made extra easy (and delicious) with simple ingredients like cream cheese, taco seasoning, and sour cream. Baked until hot, bubbly, and so cheesy, it's the ultimate party dip, yet it requires only a few simple ingredients and comes together quickly in just 10 minutes or less. Seems too good to be true but lucky for us, it's not.

I first served this cheesy bean dip at a casual, small family Christmas gathering. The spread was an ensemble of small bites and nibbles, and this dip was by far the most popular item on the table. It was less than a week before I started receiving texts asking for a copy of the recipe. If this bean dip could take the cake at a Christmas party, I can't wait to see what it will do at this year's Super Bowl party!
If you love refried beans in a dip, you'll also love our taco dip with layers of refried beans, salsa, taco meat, and more!

Why You'll Love this Refried Bean Dip
This bean dip is perfect for potlucks and casual entertaining. Easy to make, quick to assemble, hot, bubbly, and smothered in cheese.
Every time I've served this to friends and family, people can't stop eating it. It's rich and filling, so it goes a long way, perfect for feeding a crowd on game day or Cinco de Mayo.
Refried bean dip requires minimal prep and comes together in 10 minutes or less. Actually, the only prep work you have for this recipe (grating cheese) is completely optional, so technically, you might potentially be looking at five whole minutes of prep. How's that for easy?
Ingredients
- Canned Refried Beans | Just two cans of refried beans. This dish is typically made with pinto beans, but you could totally rock this dip with a delicious batch of homemade black refried beans if you want to get really extra.
- Shredded Cheese | The best cheeses for both flavor and that ooey-gooey melty texture we all know and love are cheddar and Monterrey Jack. Freshly grated cheese works beautifully in this dip, melts easily, and makes for a stretchy, gooey masterpiece of a dip. However, if you're short on time, you can use good quality, pre-packaged shredded cheese. Let it be known that this bean dip is seriously cheesy. So, if you love this recipe, you'll be crazy about our Velveeta cheese dip!
- Cream Cheese | In many dip recipes, cream cheese serves more of a purpose than just adding a little extra flavor! Just like in our cream cheese corn dip, cream cheese also helps to bind ingredients together, in turn, creating a smooth and creamy texture throughout the dip.
- Sour Cream | Sour cream also plays an important role in this refried bean dip. The acidity from the sour cream not only brightens things up, but it also thins out the consistency, so it is perfect for dipping.
- Taco Seasoning | Taco seasoning goes a long way when adding Mexican flare to any dish, and this refried bean dip is no different.
- Hot Sauce (optional) | The hot sauce doesn't add a great deal of heat to the dip, but if you'd prefer not to use it or don't want to purchase a bottle solely for this recipe, feel free to leave it out.
For garnish, top off your cheesy baked bean dip with sliced green onions or chopped cilantro...or don't. This one's also completely up to you!

How to Make Refried Bean Dip
Blend Cream Cheese + Sour Cream | The first step in making refried bean dip is blending the cream cheese and sour cream together. You can do this with a wooden spoon or with a handheld mixer. Blending these ingredients first ensures they'll distribute evenly throughout the beans when added.

Add Beans, Cheese, + Seasoning | Next, grate the two cheese and mix them together. Then, add the refried beans, grated cheese, taco seasoning, and hot sauce to the sour cream-cream cheese mixture, and mix to combine.

Bake Until Bubbly | The mixture gets transferred to an 8x8-inch casserole dish (or a small cast iron skillet, if you have one), topped with the remaining cheese, and baked until melty and bubbly in a 350°F oven.

How to Store and Reheat Refried Bean Dip
Store | Your bean dip will stay good for up to four days from the time it is assembled.
Reheat | You can reheat leftover bean dip in the microwave or in the oven. For both methods, the timing will depend on how much dip you are reheating. Reheat bean dip in the microwave at 45-second intervals in a microwave-safe container until it is to your liking. You can also reheat larger leftover quantities of refried bean dip in the same vessel you baked it in. To do this, preheat your oven to 350°F and cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. Then, bake for 10-15 minutes (or until the dip is heated through).
Make Ahead | You can easily make this refried bean dip in advance. To do so, follow the recipe up to the point of baking in the oven. Then, cover the dip with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place it in the refrigerator. This can be done up to 48 hours in advance. When you are ready to bake your bean dip, set it out 30 minutes prior to removing the chill. Then, transfer to the oven and bake as directed. You may need to add 5-8 minutes to the total cooking time if your dip goes into the oven chilled.
What to Serve with Refried Bean Dip
You can serve refried bean dip with a number of items, but my top picks are the classics: tortilla chips, Frito Scoops, or even Kettle-Cooked Chips.
Game Day | If you're throwing down for a game day extravaganza, serve with other superstar dips like pizza dip, jalapeño popper dip, Crock-pot buffalo chicken dip, or pigs in a blanket!
Taco Night or Cinco de Mayo | Top off other Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes like baked tacos or pulled pork quesadillas with this bean dip and other favorites--salsa fresca, Chile con queso, Rotel dip with ground beef, and Mexican layer dip!
